The Global Talent visa is for leaders and potential leaders in academia and research, arts and culture, or digital technology. Unlike Skilled Worker it does not need an employer sponsor — instead you obtain endorsement from a Home Office-designated body (or qualify via a prestigious prize). Wesbridge Associates prepares Global Talent endorsement dossiers and visa applications for researchers, clinicians, founders, engineers, designers and creatives.

Who qualifies

You apply in one of three fields: (1) Academic and research — endorsed by the Royal Society, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering, or via the UKRI-endorsed funder route or individual fellowship route; (2) Arts and culture — endorsed by Arts Council England (with sub-panels including PACT for film/TV, RIBA for architecture, and BFI); (3) Digital technology — endorsed by Tech Nation (currently administered through DSIT with successor arrangements). Each endorser publishes 'exceptional talent' (already a leader) and 'exceptional promise' (potential leader) criteria and requires a CV, personal statement, three recommendation letters and evidence of impact. Winners of a listed prestigious prize (Nobel, Turing, Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA, Pulitzer, etc.) can skip endorsement.

Salary, sponsorship and flexibility

There is no minimum salary, no sponsor, no job offer requirement and no Immigration Skills Charge. You can be employed, self-employed, run a company, work multiple jobs or none, change roles and change sector — provided your work remains connected to your endorsed field. The visa is granted for up to 5 years at a time. You pay the Home Office fee (currently £766 combined endorsement + visa, or split £524 endorsement / £242 visa) plus the Immigration Health Surcharge (£1,035/year).

How it works with Wesbridge

Step 1 — field and criteria fit: we assess whether your evidence maps to 'exceptional talent' or 'exceptional promise' and choose the strongest endorsing body. Step 2 — evidence build: CV, 3-page personal statement, up to 10 pieces of documentary evidence (media coverage, citation metrics, funded grants, product launches, exhibition records, revenue figures) and 3 recommendation letters from senior figures. Step 3 — Stage 1 endorsement application via the online portal (typical decision 8 weeks). Step 4 — Stage 2 visa application within 3 months of endorsement, biometrics and IHS payment. Step 5 — settlement planning: ILR after 3 years for 'exceptional talent' in any field, and for 'exceptional promise' in research and academia only; 5 years for 'exceptional promise' in arts/culture and digital tech.

Fast-track ILR

Exceptional Talent applicants (in all three fields) and Exceptional Promise applicants in academia and research can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain after just 3 years of continuous UK residence, subject to the standard 180-day absence rule, English at CEFR B1 and Life in the UK. Digital tech and arts/culture Exceptional Promise applicants qualify after 5 years. Time on Start-up, Innovator Founder, Skilled Worker and Scale-up visas can normally be combined with Global Talent time for the 5-year route.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a job offer or sponsor?

No. Global Talent is a personal, endorsement-based route — you don't need a UK employer, and you can take employment, be self-employed, run a company, or freelance. Your endorsement is tied to you, not to an employer.

Which endorsing body should I apply to?

It depends on your field and, within research, on whether you are eligible for the endorsed-funder or individual-fellowship fast tracks (which skip the Royal Society/British Academy/RAE peer review). We assess your CV, funding history and publications against each body's published criteria before choosing.

How strong do my recommendation letters need to be?

Very strong. Referees must be established senior figures in your field, personally familiar with your work, based at credible UK or international institutions, and their letters must give specific, evidenced examples of your impact — not generic praise. Weak letters are the single most common reason for endorsement refusal.
