Asylum application
Protection for those fleeing persecution in their home country. Right to stay if successful, access to accommodation and financial support, work after 12 months if there is no decision, bring family members, and a path to settlement.
Humanitarian protection
For those who don't qualify for asylum but need protection. Protection status in the UK, a 5-year grant initially, work and study permitted, access to public services, family reunion rights, and settlement after 5 years.
Refugee family reunion
Join family members who have refugee status in the UK. Spouse, partner and children, granted the same status as the sponsor, with no English language requirement and full work and study rights.
UNHCR resettlement
Resettlement through UN refugee agency programmes. Referred by UNHCR, direct settlement in the UK, immediate refugee status, support from local authorities, integration assistance, and a path to British citizenship.

Support available
Accommodation support
If destitute, you may be provided with accommodation while your claim is being processed. Section 95 support includes housing and a financial allowance.
Healthcare access
Asylum seekers can register with a GP and access NHS services during the asylum process.
Legal aid
Legal aid is available for asylum claims. You have the right to legal representation throughout the process.
Children's education
Children of asylum seekers can attend state schools. Education is compulsory for children aged 5-18.
