    The High Potential Individual (HPI) visa allows graduates from designated top-tier global universities to come to the United Kingdom to work or seek employment without securing an employer sponsor. Introduced under Appendix High Potential Individual of the Immigration Rules, this unsponsored route grants either two or three years of leave depending on whether the applicant holds a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral-level qualification. While the route offers substantial workplace flexibility, it does not lead directly to settlement and cannot be extended, requiring holders to switch into alternative routes to remain in the UK long term.

    What is the High Potential Individual visa?

    The High Potential Individual (HPI) route is an unsponsored UK work visa designed to attract early-career talent graduating from the world's highest-ranking non-UK academic institutions. Introduced on 30 May 2022 as part of the UK's post-Brexit points-based immigration system, the route sits within the economic migration provisions of the Immigration Rules.

    Unlike conventional economic migration routes, such as the Skilled Worker visa, the HPI visa requires neither a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) nor a formal job offer from a UK employer. Applicants are judged entirely on their individual academic credentials, financial self-sufficiency, and English language proficiency.

    Work and study permissions under the route

    Successful applicants are granted extensive economic freedoms within the UK labour market. Under paragraph HPI 9.1 of the Immigration Rules, visa holders may:

    • Work full-time or part-time for any employer in any sector or role;
    • Undertake self-employment, freelance contracts, or establish a registered UK business;
    • Change employers, sectors, or employment structures without notifying the Home Office or applying for a change of conditions;
    • Undertake voluntary work;
    • Study, provided the chosen course of study does not fall within the scope of the Student visa route (for courses subject to the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS), an ATAS certificate must be obtained prior to commencement).

    Restrictions and limitations

    The route is subject to explicit statutory exclusions:

    • No employment as a professional sportsperson: Visa holders cannot work as professional sportspeople or sports coaches, as defined under the Immigration Rules.
    • No access to public funds: Holders are subject to the standard "No Recourse to Public Funds" (NRPF) condition.
    • No direct route to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR): Time spent on the HPI visa cannot be aggregated toward the 5-year qualifying period for Settlement and ILR. However, this time can count toward the 10-year Long Residence settlement route under Appendix Continuous Residence.
    • No extension: The HPI visa cannot be renewed or extended beyond its original grant of two or three years.
    • One-time grant limit: An individual who has previously held leave under the HPI route, the Graduate route, or the historic Doctorate Extension Scheme (DES) is statutorily barred from applying for an HPI visa.

    Eligibility criteria for the HPI visa

    To qualify for an HPI visa, an applicant must satisfy several mandatory suitability and eligibility requirements set out under paragraphs HPI 1.1 through HPI 7.1 of the Immigration Rules.

    1. The Global Universities List qualification requirement

    The core requirement of the HPI route is that the applicant must have been awarded an eligible non-UK degree within the five calendar years immediately preceding the date of application.

    The awarding institution must have appeared on the UK Home Office's official Global Universities List (GUL) for the specific academic year in which the degree was awarded. The Home Office compiles the GUL annually by identifying non-UK higher education institutions that feature in the top 50 across at least two of the following international ranking systems:

    1. Times Higher Education World University Rankings
    2. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings
    3. The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU / Shanghai Ranking)

    Because the lists are published annually, institutions can enter or fall off the list from year to year. The critical test is whether the university was on the official list in the year the qualification was conferred. If an applicant graduated in 2021 from an institution that was on the 2021 list, but is not on the 2024 or 2025 list, the applicant remains eligible (provided they apply within five years of the graduation date).

    2. Degree level and Ecctis verification

    Before applying for the visa itself, the applicant must apply to Ecctis (the UK National Agency for the Recognition and Comparison of International Qualifications and Skills) for a formal assessment. Ecctis must confirm that:

    • The qualification is genuine;
    • The award meets or exceeds the academic level of a UK Bachelor’s degree (RQF Level 6), UK Master’s degree (RQF Level 7), or UK Doctoral degree (RQF Level 8).

    The duration of the HPI visa granted depends strictly on the level validated by Ecctis:

    • 2 years: For qualifications comparable to a UK Bachelor’s (Honours) or Master’s degree.
    • 3 years: For qualifications comparable to a UK PhD or other doctoral qualification.

    3. English language requirement

    Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency to at least Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in all four components: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

    This requirement can be met through one of the following methods:

    • Ecctis English Proficiency Statement: If the eligible degree was taught in English, Ecctis will assess this concurrently with the academic comparability evaluation.
    • Secure English Language Test (SELT): Passing an approved test from an authorised provider (such as Pearson, IELTS SELT Consortium, LanguageCert, or Trinity College London) at CEFR B1 or higher.
    • Nationality: Being a national of a majority English-speaking country listed under Appendix English Language (such as the USA, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand).
    • Prior UK qualification: Having previously obtained a degree in the UK (e.g., during earlier studies).

    4. Financial maintenance requirement

    Unless the applicant has been living lawfully in the UK with permission for at least 12 months at the date of application, they must prove they have sufficient financial resources to maintain themselves.

    • Amount: The applicant must show at least £1,270 in cash savings.
    • Holding Period: The funds must have been held for a continuous period of at least 28 consecutive days.
    • End-Date Rule: The 28-day period must end within the 31 days immediately preceding the date the online visa application is submitted.
    • Permitted Accounts: Funds must be held in a personal bank account belonging to the applicant or their partner (if applying together). Credit cards, overdraft facilities, shares, pensions, and non-liquid assets cannot be used.

    5. Exclusion based on previous grants

    Under paragraph HPI 1.2, an applicant will be refused if they have previously held leave as:

    • A High Potential Individual;
    • A Graduate (under Appendix Graduate);
    • A student under the historic Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme, Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme, Tier 1 (Post-study work), or the Doctorate Extension Scheme.

    This rule enforces the principle that post-study unsponsored working routes are a one-time opportunity in the UK immigration system.

    HPI visa vs Graduate visa: Key differences

    Both the HPI visa and the Graduate visa provide unsponsored post-higher education work rights in the UK. However, they target different candidate pools and operate under separate chapters of the Immigration Rules.

    Which route applies to your circumstances?

    The choice between these routes is primarily structural:

    1. If you studied in the UK: An international student completing a degree at an eligible UK university must use the Graduate visa. You cannot use a UK degree to qualify for the HPI visa. The Graduate visa must be applied for inside the UK before your Student visa expires.
    2. If you studied outside the UK: A graduate of a top-tier international university must use the HPI visa. The critical operational advantage of the HPI visa over the Graduate route is the 5-year eligibility window. While a UK graduate must apply for a Graduate visa immediately upon completing their degree, an eligible international graduate can pursue employment elsewhere in the world for several years, and still apply for the HPI visa up to four years and eleven months after graduation.

    HPI visa vs Skilled Worker visa: Strategic comparison

    A common dilemma for eligible candidates and hiring managers is deciding whether to apply for the HPI visa or seek direct entry via the Skilled Worker visa. The correct decision depends on long-term settlement goals, immediate employment status, and career flexibility.

    +---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
    |                                  STRATEGIC ROUTE COMPARISON                                       |

    | • Freedom to work any job/role | • Tied strictly to sponsoring employer and SOC code |
    | • No minimum salary threshold | • General threshold £38,700/yr (or lower for new entrants) |
    | • No employer sponsorship required | • Employer must hold an active Home Office Sponsor Licence |
    | • Allows self-employment/start-ups | • Supplementary work limited to 20 hours/week                |
    | • Maximum 2 or 3 years duration    | • Can be extended indefinitely                               |
    | • Does NOT lead directly to ILR | • Leads directly to Indefinite Leave to Remain after 5 years |
    +------------------------------------+--------------------------------------------------------------+

    Advantages of the HPI visa

    1. Recruitment speed and simplicity: UK employers frequently hesitate to hire international candidates due to the administrative complexity and financial burdens of obtaining a Sponsor licence, issuing a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), and paying the Immigration Skills Charge (ISC). An HPI visa holder can be hired immediately without employer sponsorship.
    2. Absence of salary floors: The Skilled Worker route imposes a general salary threshold of £38,700 per annum (subject to tradeable points or transitional/new entrant discounts under Appendix Skilled Worker). The HPI visa has no minimum salary threshold, allowing graduates to accept entry-level roles, rotational fellowships, or positions in non-profit and start-up sectors that do not meet Skilled Worker thresholds.
    3. Entrepreneurship and portfolio careers: Skilled Worker holders cannot register businesses or engage in primary self-employment. The HPI route permits full entrepreneurial activity, contracting, and holding multiple concurrent roles.

    Disadvantages of the HPI visa

    1. Settlement clock deferral: Time spent under the HPI route does not count towards the 5-year residency requirement for Indefinite Leave to Remain. An individual who spends two years on an HPI visa and then switches into the Skilled Worker route resets their 5-year ILR clock to day zero. Total time to settlement becomes seven years (2 years HPI + 5 years Skilled Worker), rather than five.
    2. Finite validity: Because the HPI visa cannot be extended, the applicant must eventually secure an alternative immigration status (such as Skilled Worker, Global Talent, Scale-up, or a family route) to remain in the UK.

    When is the HPI visa preferable?

    The HPI visa is strategically optimal if:

    • You want to relocate to the UK immediately before securing a job offer;
    • You are joining an early-stage start-up or small business that does not hold a sponsor licence;
    • The role you are accepting pays below the applicable Skilled Worker minimum salary threshold;
    • You intend to work as a freelancer, contractor, or start your own company.

    Conversely, if an applicant has already secured a qualifying role with an approved sponsor that meets the Skilled Worker salary threshold, and their priority is obtaining permanent settlement (ILR) as quickly as possible, applying directly for the Skilled Worker visa avoids adding two non-qualifying years to their settlement timeline. Detailed instructions on alternative options can be found across our Guides.

    Step-by-step application process

    Applying for an HPI visa is a sequential, multi-stage legal process. The Ecctis assessment must be formally concluded before the visa application can be lodged with the Home Office.

    Stage 1: Ecctis qualification verification

    1. Open an Ecctis Application: Register on the official Ecctis portal for the High Potential Individual Service.
    2. Upload Academic Documents: Submit clear, colour scans of your final official degree certificate, official academic transcripts, and (if your degree was taught in English) a formal Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from the university registrar.
    3. Pay Ecctis Fees: Pay the standard assessment fee of £210 + VAT (or opt for fast-track processing for an additional fee).
    4. Receive Ecctis Statement: Ecctis verifies the award directly with the issuing institution. Once completed, Ecctis issues an Academic Qualification Level Statement (and an English Proficiency Statement if requested), providing an Ecctis Reference Number.

    Stage 2: Preparing financial and supporting evidence

    Before lodging the visa application, gather:

    • Bank statements demonstrating maintenance funds of at least £1,270 held continuously for 28 days (if required);
    • Tuberculosis (TB) test certificate from a Home Office-approved clinic (if resident in a country listed under Appendix T of the Immigration Rules for 6 months or more);
    • Certified translations for any supporting documents issued in a language other than English or Welsh.

    Stage 3: The online Home Office application

    1. Access the Form: Complete the online application on the official GOV.UK portal (selecting either the overseas entry clearance route or the in-country switching route).
    2. Enter Personal and Educational Data: Enter personal history, travel history for the past 10 years, and the Ecctis Reference Number.
    3. Pay Immigration Fees: Pay the visa application fee (£822) and the mandatory Immigration Health Surcharge (£2,070 for a 2-year visa; £3,105 for a 3-year visa).

    Stage 4: Identity verification and biometrics

    Depending on your nationality and passport type:

    • UK Immigration: ID Check App: Eligible biometric passport holders (such as EEA, US, Canadian, or Australian nationals) can verify their identity entirely via the smartphone application, eliminating the need to surrender their physical passport or attend an in-person appointment.
    • Visa Application Centre (VAC / UKVCAS): Applicants who cannot use the digital ID app must book an in-person appointment at a Visa Application Centre (overseas) or UKVCAS centre (in-country) to provide fingerprints and a facial photograph.

    Stage 5: Decision, vignettes, and digital status

    • Overseas Applicants: If using a VAC, a 90-day physical entry clearance vignette will be affixed to the passport. You must enter the UK within this 90-day window and subsequently collect a physical Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), or access your digital status via the UKVI portal (for applications where physical BRPs are superseded by eVisa provisions).
    • In-Country Applicants: Status is granted as a digital immigration record (eVisa) linked to the applicant’s passport, accompanied by written confirmation of the grant of leave.

    Required documents checklist

    Failing to provide documentation formatted in strict compliance with the Immigration Rules is the primary cause of administrative delays and refusals.

    Mandatory identity and qualification documents

    • Valid Passport: Must contain at least one blank page for physical visa vignettes (if applying via a VAC).
    • Ecctis Reference Number / Statement: The formal certificate issued by Ecctis confirming that your overseas degree meets UK Bachelor, Master, or PhD equivalence, and was awarded by an institution on the GUL within the last 5 years.
    • Original Degree Certificate and Official Transcripts: Showing the course title, date of conferral, and the awarding body.

    Financial and health documentation

    • Bank Statements: Personal bank statements covering 28 consecutive days, ending no earlier than 31 days before application submission. Statements must display:
      • Name of the account holder;
      • Account number and bank details;
      • Official bank branding/logo;
      • Continuous closing balance showing at least £1,270.
    • Tuberculosis Screening Certificate: A valid medical certificate confirming negative active pulmonary TB status from an approved clinic, if residing in a mandated jurisdiction.
    • Financial Sponsor Consent (if applicable): If you received sponsorship or a scholarship from a government or international scholarship agency covering both fees and living costs in the 12 months preceding the application, you must provide written unconditional consent from that sponsor allowing you to remain in or re-enter the UK.

    Family and relationship documents (for dependants)

    • Marriage or Civil Partnership Certificate: Must be legally valid under the laws of the jurisdiction where it occurred.
    • Cohabitation Evidence (Unmarried Partners): Evidence showing joint residence (tenancy agreements, joint utility bills, official bank correspondence) for at least two full years prior to application.
    • Birth Certificates: Full birth certificates for any dependent children, showing names of both parents.

    Costs, fees, and processing timelines

    The total upfront cost of applying for the HPI visa consists of several fixed statutory fees, which must be factored into budget planning.

    Processing standards and timelines

    • Ecctis Processing: Typically takes 10 to 15 working days under the standard service. An optional 24-48 hour fast-track service is available for an additional fee.
    • Overseas Visa Processing: Standard Home Office processing standard is 3 weeks from the date biometrics are enrolled or identity is submitted via the ID Check app.
    • In-Country Visa Processing: Standard processing standard is 8 weeks.
    • Priority and Super Priority Services: Where available at the application centre, Priority processing (decision within 5 working days) or Super Priority processing (decision next working day) can be purchased for an additional £500 or £1,000 respectively.

    Dependants on the HPI visa

    The HPI route permits main applicants to bring their family members to the UK. Eligible dependants include:

    • A spouse or civil partner;
    • An unmarried partner, provided the couple has been living together in a relationship akin to marriage for at least two years;
    • Dependent children who are under the age of 18 on the date of application.

    Financial requirements for dependants

    Unless the dependants have been resident in the UK with valid permission for at least 12 months, the family unit must demonstrate additional maintenance funds held for 28 consecutive days:

    • Partner/Spouse: £285
    • First dependent child: £315
    • Each subsequent dependent child: £200

    Example: A family comprising an HPI applicant, a spouse, and one child applying from overseas must show a total continuous cash balance of £1,870 (£1,270 + £285 + £315).

    Dependants' rights in the UK

    Dependants granted leave under the HPI route are subject to minimal conditions:

    • They may work in any role or sector (except as a professional sportsperson or coach);
    • They may engage in self-employment;
    • They may study full-time or part-time without restriction.

    If your family circumstances require switching to permanent domestic relationship categories, review our Family visas guidance.

    Switching and pathways to settlement

    Because the HPI route cannot be extended beyond its initial two or three-year limit and does not lead directly to settlement, formulating a long-term immigration strategy is essential.

    Permitted switching categories

    Before your HPI leave expires, you can switch from inside the UK into several settlement-accruing routes, provided you meet the specific eligibility requirements of that route:

    1. Skilled Worker Route: The most common transition. Once you secure a role with an employer holding a valid Sponsor licence, they can issue a Certificate of Sponsorship. Time on the Skilled Worker visa counts directly toward the 5-year requirement for Settlement and ILR.
    2. Global Talent Route: For individuals who are leaders or potential leaders in academia, research, arts and culture, or digital technology. This route is unsponsored and offers a 3-year or 5-year path to settlement.
    3. Scale-up Worker Route: For individuals joining a high-growth UK business that meets statutory scale-up criteria. Requires 6 months of initial sponsorship, after which it becomes unsponsored.
    4. Innovator Founder Route: For entrepreneurs seeking to establish an innovative, viable, and scalable business endorsed by an approved body.
    5. Family Routes: Transitioning to a partner or spouse visa under Appendix FM if you enter a qualifying relationship with a British citizen or settled person.

    Switching restrictions

    Under paragraph HPI 2.1, you cannot switch into the HPI route from inside the UK if your current permission is under any of the following categories:

    • Visitor;
    • Short-term student;
    • Parent of a Child Student;
    • Seasonal Worker;
    • Domestic Worker in a Private Household;
    • Outside the Immigration Rules (e.g., leave granted on compassionate grounds).

    Individuals holding these statuses must leave the UK and apply for entry clearance from overseas.

    Common refusal reasons and how to avoid them

    An application under Appendix High Potential Individual will be refused if any single mandatory criteria is missed. The following are the most common reasons for refusal:

    +------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
    | COMMON CAUSES OF HPI VISA REFUSALS & PREVENTATIVE ACTIONS |
    +------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
    | FAILURE CAUSE                      | PREVENTATIVE ACTION                                             |
    +------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
    | Institution Year Mismatch | Check the GUL for the EXACT calendar year of degree award. |
    +------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
    | 5-Year Window Expiry | Apply within 5 years of the degree award date on the diploma. |
    +------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
    | Missing Ecctis Reference | Finalise Ecctis verification BEFORE submitting the UKVI form. |
    +------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
    | Broken 28-Day Financial Rule | Ensure balance never drops below £1,270 for even a single day. |
    +------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
    | Prior Graduate/DES Visa Grant | Do not apply if you have previously held a Graduate or DES visa.|
    +------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------------------------+

    1. Institution not on the GUL for the year of award

    The Home Office assesses university eligibility strictly by the calendar year the degree was awarded, not the year studies began or ended. If a university was ranked in the global top 50 in 2022 and 2024, but fell to 52nd in 2023, an individual whose degree was formally conferred in 2023 is ineligible.

    • Remedy: Review the historical GUL tables published on GOV.UK for your precise award year before paying Ecctis or Home Office fees.

    2. Exceeding the 5-year application window

    The Immigration Rules require the visa application to be submitted within five years of the graduation date stated on your official certificate. Calculating the 5-year deadline from the final examination date rather than the conferral date can lead to applications being submitted out of time.

    • Remedy: Count the 5-year window strictly from the award/conferral date printed on your final degree diploma.

    3. Premature visa submission before Ecctis verification

    Submitting the Home Office visa application before Ecctis has completed its assessment leads to mandatory refusal. The caseworker cannot verify the qualification level or institution eligibility without the Ecctis validation reference.

    • Remedy: Always await the formal Ecctis Academic Qualification Level Statement before completing the online Home Office visa portal submission.

    4. Financial calculation and bank statement errors

    Refusals frequently occur because:

    • The balance dropped below £1,270 for a single day during the 28-day window;
    • The statements submitted end more than 31 days before the visa application submission date;
    • The funds were held in an unrecognised financial vehicle (such as a cryptocurrency account or investment portfolio).
    • Remedy: Provide formal, stamped statements from an institution regulated by the financial regulatory body in the country where the bank operates. Ensure the cleared closing balance remains above £1,270 on every single day across the entire 28-day cycle.

    5. Ineligible previous visa status

    Applying for an HPI visa after having already held leave under the UK Graduate route or the Doctorate Extension Scheme results in an automatic refusal under paragraph HPI 1.2.

    • Remedy: If you have previously held a Graduate visa, seek alternative entry routes, such as the Skilled Worker or Global Talent categories.

    What to do if your application is refused

    If the Home Office refuses an HPI visa application, the applicant will receive a written refusal notice detailing the grounds under the Immigration Rules. Because the HPI route is an economic category rather than a human rights claim, there is no statutory right of appeal to the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber).

    1. Administrative Review (AR)

    If you believe the caseworker made a factual or procedural error in assessing your application (for example, miscalculating your bank balance dates or misapplying the GUL list), you can apply for an Administrative Review.

    • In-Country Deadlines: Must be submitted within 14 calendar days of receiving the refusal notice.
    • Overseas Deadlines: Must be submitted within 28 calendar days of receiving the refusal notice.
    • Fee: £80 (refunded if the review finds that a casework error occurred).
    • Scope: You cannot introduce new evidence unless that evidence was previously submitted and the caseworker overlooked it.

    2. Submitting a fresh application

    If the refusal was caused by an applicant oversight—such as uploading an incomplete bank statement, using an unapproved clinic for a TB test, or lodging the application before the Ecctis verification finished—an Administrative Review will not succeed.

    In these circumstances, the fastest and most reliable remedy is to correct the evidentiary defect and submit a completely fresh application. You will be required to pay the application fee and IHS again, but the IHS from the refused application will be refunded automatically by the Home Office (processing can take up to 6 weeks).

    3. Pre-Action Protocol and Judicial Review

    If an Administrative Review upholds a refusal that is demonstrably unlawful, irrational, or procedurally unfair, the final legal remedy is to initiate Judicial Review (JR) proceedings. This begins with a formal Pre-Action Protocol (PAP) Letter, putting the Home Office on notice of intended High Court litigation. In practice, many clear casework errors are settled and reconsidered at the PAP stage without proceeding to a full court hearing.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is the High Potential Individual visa?

    The High Potential Individual (HPI) visa is an unsponsored UK immigration route for recent graduates of top-ranking global universities outside the UK. It grants the right to live, work, undertake self-employment, or look for work in the UK for two years (for bachelor's and master's graduates) or three years (for PhD graduates). It requires no employer sponsorship and no job offer to apply.

    Is the HPI visa better than a Skilled Worker visa?

    The HPI visa is better if you require total employment flexibility, want to start a business, work for non-sponsoring employers, or earn below the £38,700 Skilled Worker salary threshold. However, the Skilled Worker visa is superior if your goal is long-term settlement, as it counts directly towards Indefinite Leave to Remain after 5 years, whereas the HPI visa does not lead directly to settlement and cannot be extended.

    What is the difference between an HPI visa and a Graduate visa?

    The HPI visa is for individuals who graduated from designated top-50 global universities located outside the UK, and it allows individuals to apply up to five years after graduation. The Graduate visa is exclusively for international students who have completed an eligible course at a higher education provider inside the UK, and it must be applied for immediately following course completion from within the UK.

    Which universities qualify for the HPI visa?

    Qualifications must come from an institution that appeared on the UK government's Global Universities List for the specific calendar year the degree was awarded. The list changes annually and includes non-UK institutions that appear in the top 50 across at least two major global ranking tables (Times Higher Education, QS, and ARWU), which typically includes universities such as Harvard, Stanford, MIT, ETH Zurich, the University of Tokyo, and the National University of Singapore.

    Can I bring my family on an HPI visa?

    Yes. You can bring a spouse, civil partner, unmarried partner (with proof of two years' cohabitation), and dependent children under the age of 18. Each family member must submit an application as a dependant, pay the relevant application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge, and meet the specific maintenance funds criteria unless exempt.

    Does the HPI visa count towards Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)?

    No, time spent on an HPI visa does not count toward the standard 5-year continuous residence requirement for Settlement and ILR. However, it does count toward the 10-year Long Residence settlement route under Appendix Continuous Residence. To settle via a 5-year route, you must switch into an eligible category, such as the Skilled Worker route.

    Can I extend the HPI visa beyond two or three years?

    No. The HPI visa is a non-extendable, one-time grant of leave. If you wish to remain in the UK after your initial grant expires, you must switch into another immigration category—such as a Skilled Worker, Global Talent, Scale-up, or Family visa—before your HPI leave expires.
